With the "Menorah", Bielicky uses a strong religious symbol and embeds it’s main features within a configuration of flickering monitors that replace the candles and a steel frame – a configuration which became an ironic reflection on religion and its importance in the media age ever since and is by this day one of his most successful works. With the use of wireless transmission techniques and the free arrangement of media within a static structure, he lays the foundation for many upcoming works and addresses the networked world through the magical symbolism of religion. On seven CRTs an invisible transmitter sends a video showing a flame. At the world premiere on the parade staircase of the Düsseldorf Art Academy, Bielicky sets the "Menorah" among empty fire extinguishers and extends the sculpture to his first installation.
